What's the talk about?
Hailed as “the greatest work of prose in twentieth century science”, On Growth and Form is almost certainly the most influential book ever written in Dundee. This illustrated talk will examine the historical and scientific background to the book and explore the extraordinary influence that its ideas have had in such diverse fields as biomathematics, art, architecture, geography and cybernetics.
Matthew Jarron is the Curator of Museum Services at the University of Dundee, where he is responsible for the care, interpretation, and accessibility of the University’s museum collections, which are used for learning and teaching within the University, and for public engagement and wider impact locally and globally. Among other things, he runs the D'Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum in the basement of the Carnelley Building.
